What is Sexual Health?

What is it?

Sexual Health is about more than just sex!  It involves who you are, how you feel about sex and how you express those feelings. It involves who you are attracted to, what you want to do and what you are doing as well.

Sexual Health Includes:

  • Your body and mind
  • Understanding your body and how it works
  • Who you are attracted to
  • Having self-esteem or confidence in your body
  • Being able to understand the changes that are going on in your body
  • Understanding what happens when you have sex; physically as well as emotionally

Sexual Health is different for each person and is a very healthy part of being a human being. Sexual Health is not something to be misused and it is important to talk to those who you are close to about your health and get advice from them. Having sex is often a big step, especially if it’s the first time ever, or with someone new. It’s important that you and your partner feel right about your decision to have sex and that you understand how to make it as safe as possible for you both - right from the very first time. If you are in any doubt about your decision to have sex, then maybe you’re not ready?

Below are resources, help lines and websites that you can use to help you to ask questions and make decisions regarding your Sexual Health and wellbeing.
