Emotional / Mental Health Notset

What is mental health or emotional health?

What is it?

Mental or emotional health is something everybody has. It includes how people feel, think, behave and act

Mental health includes:

  • Feeling good about yourself and your life
  • Being able to respond constructively to stress in your life
  • Being able to cope with things that come up in your life
  • Having self-esteem or confidence in how you see yourself and your future

Many people think that Mental Health means they are “crazy” or have “deep mental issues” this is wrong.  Everyone has Mental Health.  Mental Health is much the same as physical health we need to look after our bodies to keep them strong and healthy and this is the same with Mental Health we have to look after our Mental Health so that our minds can function in a healthy way.

Mental Health refers to the positive characteristics that people show, it isn’t being able to say ‘I don’t have depression or anxiety etc.  It is being able to cope with life’s pressure and understanding and being able to look after our own mental wellbeing.

Mental illness is when your feelings, emotions or thinking become unwell.
